About how much is this Nikon SLR camera worth?

I found this old camera lying around and I have no knowledge of film cameras and the year of the camera model is unclear upon inspection. All I know is that it is a Nikon FG in very good condition and it has a lens. Also if you could help me identify the year of the camera that should help me get an idea of how much it's worth because different years have various prices on eBay and Amazon.

Actually a 35 mm SLR in good shape with a standard lens can be purchased for around $100 to $150

I would have helped if you had listed the lenses make and focal length.

You can visit KEH.com and see what similar cameras and lenses cost

You can actually sell that camera and lens to them if you are in a hurry to sell it.

Unfortunately fhotoace's answer is incorrect to a large degree. This camera and lens are probably only going to sell for less than $50. As you can see by completed Nikon FG sales on eBay and the fact that they don't even stock these on KEH.com, my price is more accurate than the $100-$150 guess.

The Nikon FG is a very cheap, low end 35mm SLR made almost entirely of plastic with chromed parts to make it look like metal. It's a fairly reliable camera but the plastic parts are easily cracked and broken. The lens you have is not a Nikon brand lens but rather some generic old zoom lens that pre-dates the camera and is too slow to use with the FG's split focusing screen which will go black in the center when you try to look through this lens.

It seems like this was left over from someone's old photo kit as the pairing of this big, slow, heavy lens and tiny, lightweight split screen camera doesn't make a lot of sense outside of the fact that they are both very cheap.

This is all not to mention that the light seals in the camera are rotten. You can test this by removing the lens and locating the black foam strip above the flipping mirror. Now gently press on the foam. If it crumbles or smooshes it's decayed and needs to be replaced.

I own several FG's that were given to me years ago and they sit in boxes because I can't even give them away.

The best thing for both of us to do would be to donate them to a local school or charity. Actually, I think I'll pack mine up this weekend, thanks for the reminder.

Anyway, sorry for the bad news, you won't be getting rich off this one! Please take care and remember to choose a best answer!

EDIT: You know, I stand corrected, the most value one can get from this camera would be to use it. But just do so with a more appropriate lens like a Nikon 50mm 1.8 Series E. I have more than enough good, working 35mm SLR's though, so I'll donate mine!

Want to sell it fast? Start at $1.

From where I'm, SLRs, don't sell at $10.
