Why so many people out there sell back their 50mm lens? It's a good lens man.

50 MM lens is good it's true but when you are going to do something professionally then you need big lens. This is the reason people sell back 50MM

The most probable reason is that they maybe want to buy a 50mm 1.4 which is costly and since they don't want to fifty's they sell of one to get the other one.

Because these days, people value convenience over quality.

This is true whether it is comparing MP3 vs CDs, Cell Phone cameras vs, DSLRs, or whatever you want to compare. Convenience always wins - at least for the masses, as they are not generally not very knowledgeable about their gear.

Since a 50mm lens is a prime lens, and while some people perhaps bought one out of curiosity, they want the convenience of a zoom lens, rather than the optical quality of the prime. In fact, they are probably oblivious to the fact that the 50mm is optically superior.

They have no idea how to "zoom with their feet", so they get rid of the 50mm for a lower quality zoom lens.

These same people will buy a 50x zoom bridge camera because they want the convenience of such a lens without the knowledge that they are generally optically deficient.

I was on a cruise ship recently, and I was watching the legions of pro-photographers on board. They all had full frame cameras (Nikons) with 85mm portrait lenses. No zooms at all. They simply zoomed with their feet as needed.
