Nikon pro staff on a Ruger American Rifle?

I'm getting a Nikon Prostaff Rifle Scope 4-12x 40mm Mil-Dot scope for my Ruger American Rifle, what rings should I put on it, I'm a small guy so I'm probably going to need lower rings, but I don't wanna ruin the finish scraping the scope, so what do you all recommend?

First off, skip the 4-12x scope. You'll never need that much magnification unless you're regularly taking shots over 300 yards.

And second, you aren't going to be able to use "lower rings" unless your scope is made to be a low-profile scope. And being a small guy doesn't mean you need lower rings- you just need the correct rings.

Get a set of Weaver rings that fit the scope. That's all you need. Nothing too incredibly fancy- just a set of good-quality rings. Check at a gun shop and ask for specific help if you want more advice.

Don't get a nikon get a vortex diamondback! I gaurantee you it is a better scope. I have my American paired up with a vortex i'm spot on at 500yds. I hate nikons imo. But anyways I would go with mid high rings.highs are too high

The Ruger comes with Weaver bases, so you can get away with some not too expensive rings BUT you do want to take the rifle in and get it sized right for the scope (40mm Is probably going to use mids), and you can do that the same place/time as buying the scope and getting it boresighted at least. You can see if the place that mounts the scope/rings can make sure the rings are trued also using a rod;lapping is an added step you might consider but they will charge for that.
