303 British with a bdc Nikon pro staff?
I'm looking into getting the Nikon prostaff bdc scope for my lee enfield smle 303. I know the gullet drop is more substantial for this caliber so I wanted to know if I could still trust a bdc scope for it.
The manual for the scope will have instructions for calibrating it for.303 British using the Spot On calculator found here,

Most bullet drop compensators can be set to the specific round you are shooting - assuming that you are shooting a fairly common/popular round.
The.303 British is not a common/popular round. Having said that, there's nothing wrong with it, it is a fine long range ctg. It is just a little tougher to find rounds and rifles chambered for it. Could have something to do with it being a rimmed ctg or that the 30-06/.308 is comparable and available.
Look at the range drop tables for your round and compare it to the scope settings available. You may find that they are not as close as you would like.
You would simply have to test to find POI for each ring or X.
Uglidriver gave you all the information you need. The calculator will give you the approximate hold-over at different distances based on cartridge and load data. It's a fun online tool to mess around with.
I have that exact same scope that came on a package deal with my Savage 116. It's a great scope.
Going after insurgents in the Punjab region, Bwana? My first "real" gun was a jungle carbine… And I never considered putting any scope on it. Personally, retro-fitting one on any gun that really wasn't designed for it… Is like lipstick on a pig. I wouldn't waste the time or money and would keep it "as is"…
