Outdoor sports, terrible for landscapes.

It won't autofocus with a D3xxx or D5xxx.

You need to be looking at the Nikkor AF-S 70-300 mm VR lens if you have one of the Nikon entry level digital SLR cameras.
I have one of the older Nikkor AF 70-300 mm I purchased around 2003 and it works perfectly fine on all my pro and semi-pro Nikon cameras.
I use it primarily for shooting air shows and that is about it. In full sun it could be a good lens for shooting field sports, but I shoot most of my sporting events indoors or at night, so I use a group of much faster lenses, the 70-200 mm f/2.8, 200 mm f/2.0 or 300 mm f/2.8
