Nikkor 55-300mm or 70-300mm?

Here's my dilemma. I purchased the 55-300. Now looking back I think that maybe I should have purchased the 70-300, being only like $180 more expensive. What do you guys think? Should I return it and get the 70-300mm?

If it is still returnable, you might be happier with the 70-300mm VR. I have a 55-300mm VR, and it's not bad, but not great. According to the reviews the 70-300mm should be a little sharper in the center and sharper in the corners than the 55-300mm. The 70-300mm is reputed to autofocus faster and more accurately than the 55-300mm.
However, there's a price besides money. The 70-300mm is a little heavier and bulkier. Since neither has a tripod mount on the barrel, expect your camera with 70-300mm to be more front heavy. If your tripod head is not a hefty one, there could be more sag as you tighten it.

I had same dilemma a while a go, I tried the 70-300 and the 55-300, but after look and review the quality of the images i decided for the 55-300, after all i didn't see a major discrepancies in the image quality, however, if you are planning to buy a FX camera in the future you should consider the 70-300, because the 55-300 is not going to work in the FX format. At the end is up to you, but reviews that i found says that the 70-300 is a little bit sharp, and some others says that it's not big deal, however, using my d7000 and d90 i didn't see such discrepancies, finally i took the 55-300mm and I'm happy with the decision…

regards
p.s for me it's not worth pay the almost 200 dollars more for that lens…

I've narrowed my choice down to either a refurbished 70-300mm VR or the new 55-300mm VR. I read a ton of fantastic reviews on the 70-300mm but haven't seen much on the 55-300m. B&H has a refurbished 70-300mm for $400 and a new 55-300mm for $360, so not much price factor. The 70-300mm is slightly bigger by.1x.8in (Diameter x Length) and weighs 7.6oz more than the 55-300mm, which I feel is negligible. The 70-300mm has a bigger lens at 67mm than the 55-300mm with a 58mm lens, but not sure if this will impact picture quality.
