Is a Nikon AF DC 135mm-f/2D Lens worth it?
I'm a photographer with my own small business where I take studio and outdoor portraits of families, babies etc. I'm looking at purchasing a Nikon AF DC 135mm f/2 lens and was wondering if anyone has tried it and it is worth the money? I really want it but it is very expensive so I want to know for sure I'm making the right choice.
If you have to ask, no.
Only you can know whether it is worth the money. To get top quality you have to pay top dollar. How much is quality worth TO YOU? What anyone else thinks is pretty much irrelevant.
As an outdoor portrait lens it's great, but a bit long for indoor use unless you have a large studio or portrait area. One which is better for both indoor/outdoor portraits is the 85mm f1.4. When I'm outdoors I switch to the 105mm f2.8, ostensibly a macro lens, but also works superbly for portraits.
Also, you don't say which camera you are using- if you are using one of the full frame cameras, then the D lens is fine, if you are using a model lower than the D7000, then you will have a problem as they 3000/5000 series can't autofocus as they do not have in body autofocus motors
