How to remove the rear sites on a Remington 03-06, model 740?

Had a Nikon scope mounted, and not enough space between the sights and end of the scope to use the lens cover. Would prefer to just remove the rear sights…

If it's in a dovetail you can usually take a non-marring punch and drive them out. Sometimes on older rifles you'll want to let some penetrating oil seep into the joint before tapping out the sights. If you can't tell how it's attached or are unfamiliar with such things, take it to a gunsmith. It should be a really cheap 10 minute job to remove them, unless someone welded or soldered them on of course, then it may take a little more work.

I don't have a schematic of the 740 but if its like the next guns they made, the 742 and 760, then you loosen the slide screw on the rear sight and slide it toward the receiver and you will see 2 screws holding the ramp plate to the barrel, remove these and it lifts off the barrel. Have fun shoot safe
