Which settings do I use for fireworks pics with the Nikon D7000, and do I need tripod?

Will be attending a lights and fireworks show and want to take pics.

Yes you need a tripod.

Camera on tripod, ISO around 100
Aperture around f4 -f 5.6
Shutter speed on bulb mode (you'll need a remote release)
Manual focus mode & focus on where the fireworks are gonig to be (usually infinity is fine)
Use a wide-ish angle lens if you're not sure where in the sky they'll be bursting.
If you can, get something in the foreground to 'anchor' the shot to the ground.

Do a test shot for about 30 secs or so before the fireworks start to assess how much ambient light is in the shot - if it's too bright then you'll need to ensure you keep the shutter speed (ariable in bulb mode) down to below this.

Basically, you trip the shutter when you hear the 'thump' of the mortar launch & keep it open until you've captured a few skyburst.

Rinse & repeat.

Read your manual for the settings. You need a tripod if you want sharp photos.
