What DSLR lense is best for city / landscape pics?
I'm getting a Nikon D3200, first DSLR, and its' base lense comes with a 18-55mm lense. I know it isn't for what you want it for of course. What are these used for: 55-200mm / 55-300 / 70-300mm? Are these hella suitable for my needs?
The 18-55 mm lens is the best of those lenses for shooting city/landscapes… You need a wide angle lens, so your three options are NOT the right ones. Those are used for shooting action, sports or wildlife.
It seems you need to know what different focal length lenses "see"

Landscape shots almost always require a wide angle lens to capture large expanses of real estate. Wide angle for your camera starts at around 24mm. The 18-55mm kit lens then is good enough. If you want to cram in more structures get a lens lower than 18mm. Just be careful though. Lower than 12mm is fisheye and the distortion it brings is not good for landscapes.
Here's a long read about lenses that can explain the use of those other lenses you're interested in.

Sometimes a wider wide helps. It tends to make the foreground loom large and distant objects shrink.
Stepping back and using a telephoto does the opposite.
So yes, those telephoto lenses with a good tripod can be useful for landscapes.
However, Nikon has two versions of 70-300mm.
