Nikon d3000 shutter speed?
The Book doesn't really give me a good idea on how to use the shutter speed an where to adjust it so if anyone has this camera an can help me understand a few things like shutter speed an how to take a night photo that looks day i would love to know, Or if anyone knows a site that can help me out with this

A friend of mine has a photo of him spelling words out with a light at night an all he knows is it was done with adjusting the shutter speed

Yikes… You have a nice DSLR but you don't know how to do something as extremely basic as adjusting the shutter speed?
Do yourself the favour and start studying.

Learn about your camera!

Read your manual! Read it several times, and practice in between. If you don't have a book, download a new one from the manufacturer's website.

Attend a class, read some books, read/watch online tutorials.

The major camera manufacturers (like Canon, Nikon, Olympus etc) all have very useful sections on their website for learning about photography.

Understanding at least the basic principles of photography (as well as being familiar with your camera) will enable you to make the most of your gear, and will make a HUGE difference to your images.

It is a terribly pity to have a nice camera and not make the most of it.

That's BS. The manual absolutely tells you how to adjust the shutter speed. Now go read it again.

The manual is very clear on basics like that. If you're so intellectually challenged that you can't understand it then perhaps a different camera is better for you./

But, a hint, S-mode on the mode dial
