Macro Lens for Nikon D3100? - 1

Hi, I'm really into photography, especially macro photography. I've taken classes and know how to use my camera (Nikon D3100) to its full extent. I want to get started with some macro photography now, but need help picking the right macro lens for my camera. I photograph a lot and would like a macro lens that can get pretty close up, but the cheaper the better.

I would recommend the Tamron 90mm f/2.8.It is the cheapest of the "true" macro lenses and can take incredible closeups. Also consider the Sigma 105mm. Both the Tamron and the Sigma are cheaper than Nikon's own 105mm.

Alternatively there's the Nikon Micro 40mm which is not quite as great, but cheaper.

Avoid screw-in add-on lenses for your existing lens, because they are always terrible.

I would go with the previous answer, I will just add that if you're O. K with manual focus, then why not to try the reverse lens technique (you can search for reverse lens adapter) and then you can take true macro shots with the kit lens you have.

But always remember, the tru macro lens is the best. I think also you should consider looking at the Nikon 60mm. A final tip, macro lenses are also great for portrait shooting.
