Shooting videos and films are a team effort, so I'm afraid your "friend" will not be very successful

Just look at the credits at the end of any theatrical film and you will see how many people a director has to manage.

Sure you can shoot video using a D3100, but first you have to have a script to guide you through the video production.

Here is a video shot using a dSLR. As you can see, there were a lot of called shots, sets, scenes, camera angles and added light to create the theme and mood of the production.

You will notice that there are some pieces of the video where a remote control helicopter was used and at the end of the video, there's a list of the lenses used.

You probably have guessed that your fine D3100 is only the tip of the iceberg when using a dSLR to shoot video.

By the time you add up the costs for the additional accessories and assuming that you have a very fast computer, with a lot of RAM and plenty of hard drive storage AND the necessary video editing software, you may have spent upwards to $2,000 on the basics, just to shoot your first video.

Attempting to shoot video with no format education will really make your task harder than you may imagine.

And YES, getting an internship would be wonderful. Talk to your schools guidance counselor and see what kinds of internships are available in your area
