How to use manual flash mode on Nikon SB-600 when connected to D7000 as a slave?

I'm just getting into flash photography using my Nikon SB600 and Nikon D7000. As of right now I'm using my on camera flash to trigger the SB600 in slave mode so I can get some directional lighting. The only problem is that my controls for the flash go away when I have it in slave mode. I would really like to turn the power down to 1/64 on the flash while my camera acts as a commander. Anyone have any ideas on how to do this without the use of expensive Pocketwizards?

I'm sure this can be done on the D7000 as I can do it on my D90.

In the "Flash cntrl for built-in flash" go to the "Commander Mode".

Then select the Mode for Group A or group B - whichever group you have your SB600 set to.

The options here are "TTL", "AA", "Ml", or "--" (which is off).

Select "M" for Manual.

Then go to the Comp.box, and use the up dn control to go to 1/64, or whatever power you want.

You can also use the "TTL" mode and select an exposure compensation of +/- 3 EV (for the D90 - I think the D7000 can go to +/- 5 EV; which would be +/- 1/16) if you don't need to go as low as 1/64.

Anyway, I'm sure your D7000 is similar, so change the SB600 mode in the D7000's remote commander menu.
