I have a Nikon D40, but the flash is totally broken so I don't think I can sell the camera. I have the working 55-200mm lens though, and I'm wanting to sell it. I have seen eBay listings for $98-$120 for the lens but I don't know if anyone would actually buy it… Any advice?

Don't write off the camera for a broken pop-up flash. Provided everything else is OK a broken pop-up may only knock a little off the price. I recently bought a Canon 400D with a broken pop-up flash to use as my beach camera and for the grandkids to play with. That is similar era/spec to your D40 - I paid £40 for it (body, battery, charger and leads).

Unless you are using your digital SLR as a snap shot camera where you are using the flash all the time, there's NO need to stop using it to take amazing photos.

If you understand the fundamentals of photography, you do not need a flash to create amazing images

In a year's worth of photo assignments, I may use an external flash (mounted on the top of the camera) about 2% of the time, if that. Yes, we do use studio flash, but that is a whole different program and those flash units cost well over $10,000

If you really want to use flash, then either get the flash on your D40 repaired or buy an inexpensive TTL flash designed to work with Nikon cameras… Usually under $200

You can sell the camera for around $75. Make sure to declare the broken flash. The lens would sell if you price it well below 100.

Post it on eBay for $120. If someone buys it, great. If no one buys it after posting it once or twice, then you know that the market isn't willing to shell out that much for it, and you'll need to lower the price if you post it as a "Buy It Now" only item.
