Good DSLR for video and stills?

I'm looking for a DSLR that shoots stills and videos, Canon or Nikon - I don't mind- I currently own a D80 and really like it, however it doesn't shoot video…

My budget is around £350 maybe a bit more depending on the camera.

For some reason I really don't like the d3200 so please don't say that! Thanks: DDD

- Need it for media and want to get into either Photography or video-ography

I own and recommend the Canon t3i (600D). It's excellent for both stills and video but I'm thinking it'll be more than £350… It's around $600 US.

Not only are both video stills excellent but the camera also takes external audio which allows for much more than just an on board mike. Look here and you'll see what I mean with the interviews in this piece. I also use a top mount shotgun from Shure and I think you'll pick out the difference in natural sound right away.

I'm currently looking at getting a second DSLR; I have a Nikon, from my research in the last couple days, video wise I'm reading and hearing the D5200 is great for shooting video. Being one of Nikon's most recent cameras it still seems a little pricey for me; so definitely do your research to find a good sale or price.

You already own a D80 which is great for photos. Why not get a Sony Handycam instead for video? It's cheaper.

Still insist on getting a one-for-all camera? See this.

Have a look at the D5100… I rant and rave about this camera… It's cheap, easy to use, lots of fun and spits out great quality images… I can't fault it as a tool… I reckon you won't get anything better for your £350.

Stick with Nikon.

Switching camera brands will cost just you too much money.

The upgrade from the D80 would be the Nikon D7000 or newer D7100.

Here is a link that shows you a sample video shot with the D7000

What you need to know about the accessories you will need to add to any dSLR to make it into a viable video camera and a reason why many photographers/videographers own both a dSLR and a video camera.

EDIT: You seemed to have set your budget of £350 long before you did your research. The camera you need if you really want to use a dSLR to shoot both stills and video costs closer to £580.

Here is an alternative. Keep using your D80 for shooting your stills and look for a good under £350 camcorder. You can find them that shoot Full HD with a 30x optical zoom or better for that price or below. JVC, Panasonic, Sony and Canon make such cameras and they will fit withing your budget. Either that or save your pennies until you have a budget of around £600
