I'm planning to buy a d7000 bacause it has an external mic input and it's better for night pgotography… Etc. My question is: Will my nikon d3100 lenses fit and work with Nikon d7000 DSLR? Or do you have to buy special lenses for both cameras?

Yes, both use the same Nikon mount. The only difference is that with the D7000 you can also autofocus with AF lenses because the D7000 has a focus motor built into the body.

The Nikon D5100 uses the same sensor that's in the D7000 and also has an external mic input… It also has the advantage of the articulated screen… And it's more affordable than the D7000…

I'm just pointing out that the D5100 might be worth a look and it could save you some money.i'd still advise you to spend more time researching before deciding… Always best to explore all the options before diving in…

Here's a link to a You Tube comparison:

The D7000 has the same lens mount as the D3100, with the addition of features that allow it to autofocus with ANY Nikon mount AF lens. That opens a world of lenses from Nikon and 3rd party lens makers for you.

You may consider getting a D7100 as that upgrade offers stereo recording, as well as higher resolution and other features.
