Do i need to set up my warranty?

This Christmas i received a Nikon D3100 because i study Photography.
My dad told me i need to go online and set up the warranty? I'm confused by this because it already comes with 2 warranty receipts and slips, and doesn't have any information about having to go online?
Is it done and dusted or is there an online process i have to go through?

You have to register for the warranty to take effect, either on line or by posting a form that is in the box.

No you don't have to register, but sometimes they offer a longer warranty if you do, read the advertising or what it says on the box. Often it's just a way to con you into giving them contact info so they can send you advertising mail.
