What is a great software program for beginning professional Photographers?

I'm looking for a photo editing program where i can created collages, add vignettes and etc. Similar to those they use at JC Penny, Olan Mills and so on! I'm just having trouble finding one. I use a Nikon D5000 Camera, if that helps any.

And i will be taking photos primarily of babies.

Adobe have range of programs for photographers - Lightroom, photoshop elements, and the full photoshop creative suite.

Elements should be able to do all your basic creative tasks at a reasonable price.

Any adobe program is good. The PhotoShop CS5 is excellent for professional as well as beginner photographers. It has endless features that lets you polish your picture as much as you want.

Adobe Photoshop Elements is specially made for beginners.http://www.adobe.com/elements - $99

Obviously the best way for you is to shoot RAW, and use Elements to process your photos. If you are a professional, you'll know that already.

Forget the full version of Photoshop for now, it's for image editing professionals, and there's a steep learning curve. Perhaps something to look towards getting if Elements isn't fulfilling your requirements. And it ain't cheap.
