Just look for lenses in Nikon AI or AIS fit, there were a whole slew of third-party manufacturers in the days of MF. Avoid Tamron, though, their interchangeable mount system was a world-beater at the time, but the mounts are hard to track down and expensive. You could also look at a couple of Soviet camera dealers - the Kiev SLRs used a Nikon AI mount and there were some interesting lenses made for them.

Of course, you won't be able to meter with them, and - as they're designed for full-frame - you'll have real problems finding a wideangle.

Look for old Nikon F-mount lenses. Bear in mind that with AI lenses, you lose the lightmeter.

Not properly. The D5000 will only work fully with AF-S and AF-I (or equivalent third party) lenses.AF and AI-P lenses will only give auto-exposure and metering but are manual focus lenses.AI/AI-S lenses will fit but won't work.

Best to use new Nikon lenses on the 3*** and 5*** system.

Note you can get inexpensive adapters for Tamron Adaptall lenses from China, but you will lose functionality in metering.
