Nikon Camera Lens not attaching to Body?

Glenn

My Nikon D60 lens is not attaching to the body. It makes a clicking noise then pops out and just falls off. When I attempt to hold it in place, even if I attempt to take a picture the camera will forcfully take it off. Can someone tell me how I can fix it? Is it the lense or the body of the camera itself?

You do NOT have a D60 lens.

It must be a Nikkor AF, AF-S lens

You MUST attach the lens to the camera.

Look on page 18 of your user manual to see how to attach the lens

You have to line up the dot on the body with the line or dot on the lens. If they are aligned, the lens will fit flush into the body. Then turn counter clockwise until it clicks. Read your manual. If necessary, download one from Nikon.

Are you certain your lens is compatible with the camera? Did something break?

You might want to visit a camera shop, or a friend who is handy with cameras, so they can explain how to properly mount a lens, and determine if you even have compatible equipment.

Some of the kit lenses Nikon supplies have plastic mounting rings. I always cringe at that, and is the one thing I dislike about Nikon. At the result of saving probably a dollar on the lens, they risk having a lot of people with broken lens mounts.

Check the lens mount and see if it looks like it is busted.

Nikon lenses usually have a 5yr warranty, and if it has expired, you can usually find a replacement mount on eBay for a few dollars if you are inclined to do the repairs yourself (however, if you are not skilled in such repairs, you risk permanently damaging the lens).

Here is a photo of two of Nikon's entry level lenses with plastic mounting rings (on the right) compared to a higher-cost Nikon lens with a metal ring (on the left). That should give you an idea where to look on the lens for a busted lens mount.
