Naming the photos! Nikon d5000?

Could I make my D5000 names the photo by date or time or any other format instead of this format: DSC_0027.JPG… Etc.

I wanna keep all my photo in one folder and can't do that now because I can't keep more than one photo with the same name in the same folder!

An idea please?

Thanks

Added (1). How do you change the naming system to the date and the time of the pic?

I want to know when and where I took the pic one I look at its name!

Hope this make the question easier.

Nope. Get into windows explore and then into your folder and rename them one by one - that's how it's done.

That doesn't make sense. A camera sequentially names each photo as in: DSC_0027, DSC_0028 etc.

Yes I name mine by year, month, event name and file each of the subfolders in a folder marked pictures.

There's an option in the camera to make it so that it starts off with the number you left off even if you put in a new memory card. Read your instruction manual, it should be in the menu somewhere.

Why would you want to put all your pictures in the same folder anyway? Putting it in a different folder will make it easier for you to find the picture when you need it (rather than browsing through hundreds of others).

Any Nikon DSLR has two options.
1.It starts numbering fresh whenever you insert a card
2.IT keeps numbering on until it reaches dsc_9999 and then starts at 0 again
