What do you think will light the subject in the dark?

Photography requires light to record images.

You really need to take at least one class in photography to learn the basics.

NO light = NO photo.

Simple, you can't. Unless you can find some kind of night vision lens that will cost you maga bucks.

Hmm. Maybe you need a fast lens? I think you're talking about low-light situations. Get a 50mm then.

There's a way to fool the camera so that it will snap a pic, but all you will get is dark and noise, not an actual picture. 1st, take it out of P mode and put it in M manual. Second, go into the menu and turn on "shutter release priority" instead of "focus priority", or whatever Nikon calls them. And third, adjust the AF mode to manual. The camera will now quite happily open and close the shutter every time you press the release, although it won't actually focus on anything, or record any sort of useful image.

Photography means, quite literally, "light writing". Notice the "light" part.
