How to make my photos look like this?

I'm a very amateur photographer, but i'm going to Germany in a few months and i'd really like to know how to get this look.

Is it just taking the picture and editing in on the computer? Or can I make it look like this just by taking it?

I have a Nikon D5100, if anyone has any advice.
