Ok i'm using a Nikon d70 with a compact flash memory card. The camera reads the card fine however when i try and transfer the images to pc (via the lead) the pc comes up with format card to continue… I don't want to lose my images so have no idea what to try. Any suggestions?

Try ramreaders

Put the card back in your camera and try it with the usb lead for the camera. These cards do this somehow i don't know how. If you format it you will lose everything on it.

Your card may be just gone or its about to… I suggest you to try it on various devices and save your data first amd then save your card(try formatting in your camera first)… If you formatted the card for then try recovery softwares like 'recovermyfiles' to undeleate the formatted pics

It sounds as though you are trying to download the card contents by connecting the camera to your computer with a USB lead with the memory card installed in the camera.

To do this you need to have the correct drivers installed in the computer. Without the correct drivers, the computer may do strange things. I have three devices that need special software installed on the computer when I connect them with a USB lead. Visit the Nikon web site to see if you can locate the correct software/driver.

The other option is to buy a USB card reader. These tend to be much better than using a lead to the camera to download the files from a memory card.

If your card has a lock switch, flip the switch to the locked position while you have it in a card reader connected to your computer. This should prevent accidental loss of the cards contents.
