Do you use a Nikon 1?

This is simple. I preordered the new nikon 1 j3 and am excited to get it. My question is how many guys actually have and use a Nikon 1? I can't help but think more girls enjoy it. Regardless, I think i'm still going to enjoy this new tech! (i'm a guy btw lol)

There are times when I'm out and about and do not have my Nikon dSLR's with me. The Nikon 1 series cameras are very nice since the are tiny, you produce better images than a P&S and certainly better than a cell phone can produce.

I have a Nikon V1 (along with a Nikon DSLR).It is my backup camera. While it does not have the flexibility of a DSLR, it is a lot better than a compact camera. While it can't match a Sony NEX (since the Sony uses DSLR size sensors), reviews have shown the Nikon 1 cameras can hold their own against the typical M4/3 cameras.

The Nikon 1 cameras were criticized when they were first introduced as many felt the sensor was too small. But over the last year or so, people have come to realize that they are actually a pretty good camera.

And with the FT-1 adapter, I can use my Nikon DSLR lenses on it.

While I don't normally recommend a lens adapter, this is perhaps an exception, as the FT-1 is designed by Nikon to work with both the Nikon 1 cameras and Nikon F-Mount lenses.

I can mount my Nikon AF-S 70-300mm f/4.5~5.6 telephoto on the Nikon 1, and with the 2.7x crop factor, end up with an equivalent 810mm lens; maintaining both autofocus and autoexposure functionality. This is my setup of choice for long telephoto use. It is certainly better than using a teleconverter (as it maintains aperture) or those cheap f/8 fixed aperture telephoto lenses.

As long as you don't go with a pink camera, then I don't think it will look too "girlish".

I bought a Nikon 1 V1 with the 10-30mm and 30-100mm to teach my kids how to take pictures. Mainly as protection for my professional gear as I had nightmares of my 9 year old dropping my D600 or D700… Yep, he likes to copy dad and really loves taking pictures, so why not get him a camera with full manual settings and a couple of lenses to learn on, especially one that is lighter and smaller than a full size dslr and thus easy for him to manage.

Well, I had to play with it a bit to learn to use it and I found myself very impressed with its capabilities. Yeah, my big DSLRs take nicer pictures, but as a walk around camera it is definitely superior to compacts. Heh, I took it along on a hike in a nearby nature conservance recently, performed grea and much easier to hike with than a DSLR
