Nikon doesn't sell cheap lenses! See their web site. Look at the fast 50mm / 80mm lenses.

If its for portraits, you might want to consider getting an older Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 AI on eBay for like $50. The only downside is that you have to shoot fully manual, focus and metering. Other than that, the results you can get with these older "fast fiftys" is better than any Nikon zoom lens for under $1000.

You bought what is considered the best name in cameras and now you want the cheapest lens. Maybe you should ask for All the lenses available for your camera that are good portrait lenses and then you apply the amount of money YOU want to spend on the project.

Good Luck!

An idea! I wanted a macro lens for my camera, new one was $850.00! I just considered the amount of use I would give it and thought that $850.00 was more than I wanted to spend. I spent over 6 months looking until a used one came up for $500.00, much more in keeping with the usage I'm going to give it!

The 18-55mm kit lens will do perfectly if you know exactly what you are doing. To make background blurring easier, get the 50mm f/1.8.
