A camera for lamps/yellow lights?

My house is filled with yellow energy savers and lights, the problem is whenever I take a picture the yellow lights appear too orange and the person appears black, so I would like know a way in which I could take good pictures (maybe an app), the camera I use is from my phone, HTC Wildfire S, I can also use a NIKON digital camera (i don't remember the model no.)

Adjust your colour balance, that's what it's for (I use the probably appalling, but effective, method of using a clean sheet of white A4 paper as a template).

Play with White Balance settings. Try tungsten first then if that doesn't work, brute force your way through the other settings. If none works, use flash.

While your cellphone probably does not have such a setting, most cameras have a white balance setting.

The issue is the color temperature of the lights you are using are altering the colors your camera sees.

Even with automatic compacts, many of them have an adjustable white balance. Some cameras have a setting for direct sunlight, incandescent, florescent, and tungsten, cloudy skies, shade, and even a custom setting if this is not sufficient.

Some cameras also allow you to enter a color temperature into the camera. You would find that on your light bulb package. That would most certainly match the camera to the lighting.

Of course, when you go outside, you have to remember to turn the color balance back to sunlight or auto, or you will get funky colors.

Check your manual to see what capability your camera has, and adjust accordingly if you can. If you don't have your manual, you can download one at one of the Nikon websites (usually each country has one).

Go for "Auto White Balance" or go for Manual White and select a type, you may need to experiment if you have energy-saver lamps, but start with "Tungsten" or "Incandescent" (same thing).

All digicams have the possibility to adjust white balance, but some phone cameras only have 'auto white'.
