Why won't my camera take pictures in Close-Up Mode?

Recently, my Nikon L110 hasn't been taking pictures in Close-up mode.It'll turn on, zoom in, and even flash-- but right after flashing, it'll just shut down. The picture won't be taken/saved! I've tried everything I can think of to fix it; nothing works. My camera does still take pictures correctly in Sport Continuous mode, which I don't understand, but don't use as often anyway.
What's wrong with my camera? More importantly, how do I fix it? Can I fix it?
