What should I do about my camera's memory card?

I have a Nikon S3000 camera (amazing camera, in my opinion), and I have just recently bought a new Sandisk 4G memory card. Lately when I try to record videos, it will record for maybe two or three seconds (five, at the most), stop, and then tell me "this memory card can't be read". I looked for some help on this issue because it happens almost every time I try to record, and I've heard that the class--exclusive to the Sandisk brand, if I'm correct--has to do with the overall performance of the camera (which HAS been running a bit slower). The memory card is a "class 4", and I've heard that a "class 6" or higher would help to fix/prevent the problem and clear up the slightly-lagging camera. Any thoughts?

Yeah, get a class 6 they have much higher read/ right rates, it could also help to lower you resoulition to reduce the file size

Actually I would recommend class 10-cards. They're the fastest currently available and I use them exclusively for HD video. You see, HD video develops a huge data stream and most memory cards are too slow to keep up - that's what's happening to you. If the card stops accepting data because it's too slow the camera stops.

Be sure to format the card before using it
the manual tells you to do so

Class 6, at a minimum for video. Sandisk is not the only brand that has Class 6 and better. I have sixes and tens in 4 different brands.

Did you remember to Format your brand new memory card in-camera BEFORE you used it the very first time? I doubt it. If not, then that is most likely the reason why you are experiencing problems, because all cards should be formatted to the camera before using the first time.

So, first transfer All files on the card over to your computer (and back them up) then go into the camera Menu and find the Format function… And format the card. Remember to reformat the memory card regularly… So, shoot, then transfer and back up then format the card to delete All files from it… Ready for your next shoot.

p.s. Your S3000 is a basic point and shoot camera that ONLY records movies in a very low resolution… VGA (640x480).So, you DON'T need an ultra fast card. Using a Class 10 card would be a waste of money and extreme overkill. Sandisk is an excellent, popular and very reliable brand that I always use and recommend. If you are using the Sandisk Ultra (Class 4) then it will be PLENTY fast enough for your camera… Because it's a Class 4 card that's a lot faster than many other Class 4 cards.

Good luck, try the format and I think your problems may be solved…
