What is the difference between a canon and a Nikon or other camera brands?

I'm looking to buy a new camera (professional) and was wondering which one is the best but affordable in each of the major brands and what the difference between them is? I have always seemed to lean towards a canon camera but I don't know why- some people say that nikon are better where others say canon or fujifilm… Which is the better brand?

Well, obviously there are varying opinions about each brand and the bottom line is; only personal opinion matters. I'm assuming you are meaning a Digital SLR when you say professional, yes? Both DSLRs from both brands will produce great pictures if you know how.

Both Canon and Nikon have their entry-level cameras which are perfect. The Nikon D3100 and the Canon EOS 1100D/Rebel T3 are roughly the same specs and price range. Obviously there are a load more comparable models, Nikon D5100 and the Canon EOS 500D/Rebel T1i for example. I would say with Canon, you get considerably more for just a little bit more money.

To my knowledge, Fujifilm do not have any DSLR cameras in production. However, they do have some professional digital cameras like the Finepix HS30EXR (newer version of the HS20EXR) and the X-S1. Both of which were newly released in March this year. These are very good cameras but lack interchangeable lenses. They offer great DSLR features with full manual controls.

Hope I helped.

If you no nothing about cameras, you're not in the market for a " professional " one. They start at about $2, 500, just for the body…
If I were you, I'd look at a Nikon D3100, or Canon Rebel. And buy a book on the camera you decide to buy.

There's no real difference between any of them, no matter what the fan boys tell you. There are low end (inexpensive, where you should be looking) and there are high end, expensive cameras.

If you have to ask a question like this, you won't know what to do with a high end camera anyway, so go and pick one lower end off the shelf. You may choose by brand name, color, how the salesman pushes the highest margin model… It really won't make a bit of difference. Any salesman that tells you otherwise is lying.

There's no big difference in which brand you buy. The top manufacturers are all good. I'm certain you do not mean a professional camera, rather a DSLR. If you want an entry level DSLR, the Nikon D3100 is a great choice. Professional cameras are much more expensive and not something you need.
