What is the difference between a 18mm lens and 300mm lens?

Guest
It is about the Zoom on the lens and the focus of it to produce a higher resolution picture?

There's a sony a330 camera on sale for $399 and put in an extra $50 you can get a 300mm lens. Is that a good deal to buy or should i wait for a better deal for a Canon or Nikon with better features?

An extra $50 will not buy quality. 339 is already cheap for a cheap camera.
This should help you get to grips with the whole mm thing.
