Upgrade my Nikon 50mm 1.8 or buy 35mm?
I have a couple hundred for a lens. Should I sell my 50mm 1.8 and upgrade to the 1.4 or keep the 1.8 and buy the 35mm 1.8? I shoot baby, children, and family portraits.
No need to upgrade from a f/1.8 to a f/1.4, there's very little difference
Spend some time using your 18-55 mm lens at 35 mm and see how you like it. You may find that you don't need a different lens since you are using the camera to shoot portraits of babies, children and families
Later if you decide to expand the subjects you shoot, you can decide whether you need a wide angle lens for shooting landscapes, a macro lens for shooting close ups or a longer lens for shooting children at play
