Upgrade from a Nikon D5200?

What camera would you chose when upgrading from a Nikon D5200?

I doubt that you have had the camera long enough to fully understand the fundamentals of photography and time enough to where you are using it intuitively

Rather than spending money on a Nikon D7100, I suggest you instead, buy some more glass.

Which lenses you choose will depend mostly on the subjects you tend to shoot.

Landscapes? A wide angle zoom like the 10-24 mm
Closeups of nature? A macro lens like the 40 mm f/2.8 macro
Action or wildlife? A lens like either the 55-200 mm or 70-300 mm

Since your D5200 can do anything an advanced camera like the D7100 can do, upgrading will only provide you with a more robust camera with environmental seals to protect it from dust and moisture.

Here is a link to all the lenses available for Nikon cameras. Look at the AF-S lenses if you want to use the auto-focus on your D5200

Lenses are more important.

That depends on what I needed to do that would be impossible to do with the D5200. I would only consider upgrading if my camera was severely limiting me in some way that would save me time, money or if a different camera would somehow enable me to take my photography to the next level.

I'm backing fhotoace here…

I'm a fan of the Nikon D5000 series, nice cameras, easy to use, fun and enjoyable and great quality.

The only time I entertain advice about upgrading is when the person can actually explain what their current camera lacks… And the other contributors cover this… So they deserve your 10 points.

I could shoot dog photography with a D5200… I actually have the D5100… Made the upgrade to the D7100 and then added the D7000 to my collection… I can't advise the jump simply because I haven't seen an example of your work… And it isn't always the way to go on here… Sometimes the 'vultures' are just a bit too quick with their critique.

The D7000 is an affordable option with improved performance… And is enjoyable to use… It won't improve your shots though… Unless you understand how to use it and already have a decent technique.
