Opinions on Barska rifle scopes?

On my latest gun trade i scored a Remington 700 308 tactical and it came with a Barska 6-24X42 mil dot scope. I looked them up and they are cheap as hell ($68.99) but does that necessarily doom them to be bad scopes? I'm really wanting to get another Nikon buckmaster 6-18X40 but should I at least give this scope a try?
the barska reviews I read were pretty good but have any of you had any experience with them?

They are not that good at all. That scope on that rifle, is like putting perfume on a pig.

Use it until it breaks. They are cheaply made scopes but should work for awhile. I was surprised by one on a.50 cal muzzleloader that's been on it for 4 years and hundreds of shots and it's still fine.

I get paid to put scopes on my employer's guns, and I have also shot scoped guns all my life. I do a lot of research before I buy. The concensus is that Barska scopes are so bad that I would never waste my time or money. I would not go so far as to say you get what you pay for, because there are a lot of overpriced scopes out there. But I have neither seen nor read about a quality scope for $70 for a high powered rifle. I quit buying cheap scopes, period.

With a bit of research you will find good scopes for a reasonable price, like your Buckmaster. I own one for my.308 and mounted one for my boss. I wouldn't waste the cost of a round to screw with a Barska.

I had a 4x16x50 Adj-Obj mounted on my sisters rifle a Remington 700 ADL 270 and was using it to test some loads it had no problem with the adjustments it was 1/8 at 100 yards I tested my loads at 25 yards(little trick if it says 1/4 at 100yds=16 clicks at 25yds=1 inch, thus 1/8 at 100 yds = 64 clicks at 25 yds= one inch) it was off buy two inches to the left(2x64= 128 clicks) and an inch low(64 clicks) I moved it precisely that many clicks and the bullet hit dead center of the bulls eye where the crosshairs were aimed, there usually is bad mouthing cheap scopes because they want you to buy there $300-$400 priced scopes but unless it gives you trouble just keep it on the rifle, my brother has a Barska 4x16x40 adj-obj on his 308 made a one shot kill on a buck at 260 yards, I have a 4x12x40 adj-obj Bushnell(Wal-Mart $70.00 brand new) mounted on my Interarm Mark X 257 Weatherby it will shoot under 2 inches at 200 yards over sand bags with my hand loads. By the way Natchez shooters supply is having a sale on these scopes you can get the same scope with a 18-36X50 spotting scope for $89.99

Take it and shoot it if it shoots fine keep it till you can get what you really want. If it is still working then slap it on a.22lr and have fun.

I had a barska (don't remember which model) on a.22 and it was fun for quite a while till one day i slipped while jumping a ditch and dropped the gun… Gun was fine scope wasn't. It wasn't the most acurate of scopes but for pop can and squirrel hunting it did just fine
