Nikon J1 sensor not letting in light?

I've had my nikon j1 for awhile and i had to get a new 10-30 mm lens. The new 10-30mm lens broke so I had to get another but the lens doesn't seem to be able to take in all of the light. When i take off the lens the body is able to get in more light. I have tried with the 30-55mm lens and that one lets in enough light. I have also tried reseting the camera to factory settings. Anyone have any idea as to why the 10-30mm lens for my J1 isn't letting in enough light?

Sounds like the aperture is set to a high f-stop (narrow diameter opening). Does the lens allow you to manually set the aperture?

The best way to go about it is to bring all your lenses to the store you bought the camera and lenses from and let them figure it out. I highly suspect you're not using the camera correctly but there's a possibility the camera is faulty in the first place.
