Help on buying new DSLR lens?
What's the best lens for Cityscapes & landscape photography? I'm thinking a 10-20mm Nikkor but what are "your" guy's thoughts? What lens is best for those 2 types of photography? What's the best price? Can i tell a difference? Any pin points, point them out please! Thank you
Btw, i'm using a 18-55mm and i'm SICK and tired of using that lens for every.every shot. And I have a 50mm 1.8 but thats the cheapest lens that everyone has! Its a great lens but I want more of a nice quality easy focus all around awesome lens. And no $8, 000 telephoto which I'll end up bankrupt from haha.
I've a sigma 10-20 and the quality is great, although I should imagine the Nikkor to be slightly better, although I would have to see a test to prove it. I use it a lot with a neutral density filter to lengthen the exposure so that clouds and water have movement to them.
Very well Martin… Its hightime u upgrade to a nice prime(ish) lens (in terms of cost.lol). I suggest the Nikkor 10-24mm… Instead the sigma 10-20mm. The reason is the angle distortion… It looks cool for sometime, but slowly loses its mojo, if you know what i mean…
here's a nice comparison -- http://esfotoclix.com/tech/nik10sig10/
There's is also th 14mm f/2.8 http://imaging.nikon.com/.../index.htm. I like it as i'm not a huge fan of variable focal length lenses as far as wideangled lenses are conserned… But thats just me… Lol
I use Sigma 10-20 f/3.5 with my Nikon and it works wonder for my landscapes. Its bit cheaper than Nikkor 10-24; but the amount that I saved from there was invested in Nikon 35mm f/1.8
Here is a site that shows photo samples from Nikkor 10-24 and Sigma 10-20mm Side-by-side:

The Tokina 11-16 is about the best superwide angle lens you can get for a DX camera. I bought it over the Nikon 10-24mm. But you can't autofocus it with a Nikon entry level camera (D3100/D5100, etc) as it needs a camera having a focus motor; D90, D7000, etc.
