Can't the Nikkor 50mm 1.4 focus close-up like what 60mm 2.8 micro?
I'm now using 18-200mm and I'm satisfied but sometimes I can't shoot up pretty closely since it won't focus well. I'm doing food photography and its all about focusing something in the food and its really have to be pretty close to the subject. So would 50mm 1.4 do the work of 60mm 2.8 micro?
Added (1). But will extension tubes plus the 50mm 1.4 work as the 60mm 2.8 micro?
Macro lens do macro photography, lens that arent macro don't,
so short answer: no
I own them both and I can say that the 50mm can't focus as close as the 60mm micro.
I must say that you would probably be okay with the 50mm for food photography, but you are limited to something like 15 inches near focus with the 50mm. Here are two examples of "near" macro work, though.
These are cropped from a larger image, though.
Here are some samples from the 60mm micro:
You can fill the frame with almost any subject.
The 50mm f/1.4 can't even come close to the minimum focusing distance of the 60mm f/2.8. One is designed as a fast, convenient prime. One is specifically for macro. Now, you may not need the 1:1 ratio the 60mm offers, but the 50mm won't be a comparable lens in that manner.
