How much zoom does the Sigma 70-300mm DG Macro APO lens for Nikon have?
In x times magnification
is it like 8x, 6x whatever?
Using 8x, 4x etc is the realm of point and shoot cameras.
It is however a simple calculation - divide the high number by the small number
so 300 divided by 70 is 4
It is a marketing ploy that doesn't tell you anything useful about a lens
a 10-20mm is a 2x zoom
a 200-400mm is a 2x zoom
They cover completely different ranges!
The 70-300mm on a cropped sensor APS-C camera is a short to upper/mid-range telephoto.
You do the math.
300mm divided by 70mm = ? X zoom
Magnification? Hmm… Perhaps this would best give you an idea.

Your eyes have an equivalent (35mm film and full-frame dSLR's) focal length of about 50mm. On a crop sensor dSLR, it would be about 35mm. Compare from there.
4.3x
Just divide 300 by 70.
