Any opinions on the camera itself? Pros and cons? I'm upgrading from my d100 and It seems that d5100 is a good camera for it's price range. Any info helps.

The D5100 is an excellent upgrade from the D100 (I still have one of my D100's - in fact I used it yesterday)

The D5100 is NOT a full frame camera. You will have to look at the Nikon D700 or any of the Nikon D3 series cameras to get a full frame

The sensor performance between your D100 and the new D5100 is amazing The newer 6mp sensored D40 is the closest I could get for a comparison.

The Nikon D5100 is very very very good. It is a very good sensor and its High ISO performance is very good.

It isn't full frame but full frame is more expensive thing the D700. That one is full frame but also more expensive then a D5100.

Don't worry you don't require Full Frame to get good pictures. With our modern sensors. They are pretty darn good.

The D5100 is an excellent camera, but you may find that some of the lenses you used for your D100 won't autofocus on it. The D5100, like all of the Nikon entry-level DSLR's, doesn't have a built-in autofocus motor and requires either an AF-S or AF-I lens. With 3rd party lenses, you'll also need to be careful. For example, the only Sigma lenses that autofocus are the HSM series.

Here's a full list of lenses that are 100% compatible with the D5100, as far as autofocus.

Nope, only D700, D3, D3s, D3x are full frame. All other are DX (aka 1.5x crop factor).

D5100 has much better high ISO performance, bigger max ISO speed, video, better build materials, better viewfinder and is just epic.
