Best nikon lens for newborn photography?
I'm learning newborn photography. Which lens is best for me to use? I'm using a nikon d200. And my studio is very small and closed in so a closer range would be best for me
50mm f1.4 or f1.8, I like to use my 24-70 f2.8 L (Canon glass) but even your kit 18-55 (or whetever similar kit lens comes with a Nikon camera) would work fine… The optics aren't as clean or clear but it's not a BAD lens, it's just not as good as higher end glass like Canon L series lenses.
Sorry about all the Canon talk, I shoot Canon so that's what I know best.
More important than which lens is how it is used. The best lens in the world will not fix a bad choice of camera angle or lighting.
Huge tip - best practice means to usually keep the lens at the subjects eye level. Do not shoot down from your standing height - lower the camera to the child's eye level.
Often natural light, when used correctly, is very pleasing. And in such light levels a quality tripod can help get you a sharper blur free image.
Have fun.
For close shot I would suggest the 60mm 2.8D macro or the 50mm 1.4G.
I usually prefer the close-focusing a macro lens can offer for newborn shots so check out these lenses:
Tokina 35mm 2.8
Tamron 90mm 2.8
However, you may also want to look into the 50mm 1.8G and 85mm 1.8G as well if you aren't limiting yourself to one lens!
