As a professional Photographer, which of these Nikon cameras would you go for?
Nikon D700, D7000, D7100 or D300s?
Any of them - they are all capable of giving excellent results, especially with good glass and more importantly with someone who knows how to properly 'drive' a fully manual camera.
Currently I use a Nikon D300, D800 and D3s.
If and when the Nikon D400 becomes available, I will replace the D300 with it
I'm a fan of the D700.It produces a beautiful "look". I borrowed my friends camera for a week and was amazed by the silky picture quality.
With that being said, I wouldn't buy one since I'm actually a Canon shooter. I prefer the ergonomics of Canon bodies better than Nikon. But boy, the D700 produces great results!
None! I would buy a Canon.
As a professional photographer I would open my options to at least a few more brands. As a professional photographer I adapted Minolta lenses to an old Olympus body because it did the job I needed to do.
As a professional cartographer you would write out what you want to do and what does that. Then start looking at what camera offers it and/or what you have to do to achieve that, which may be ripping down someone's cork-board to put yellow paper over your flash, or hanging a coat over a window to control the light… And every once in a while you might buy a new lens.
I'd never buy any of the camera's you listed because I know I'll spill coffee on them or flop in the mud. Plus, I'd rather spend my money on lenses and lights and filters and actually have some tools rather than a cool, empty tool-belt.
It would depend on what you were photographing. The DX sensor and higher speeds of a D300S and D7100 could offer an advantage in applications such as sports of wildlife as you are effectively adding a 1.5x teleconverter without any loss of light.
The D700 on the other hand is more appealing for landscape photographers because of it's small form factor and full frame sensor. It's also pretty handy in low light, and may be useful for event and press photography.
I'm getting the d7100, it's specs are almost Proffesional, plus lenses are cheaper because of dx, and I like the oodles of megapixels
