Expensive camera and cheap lens?

I want to buy a dslr so I've been looking at many different models, and so far i like the Canon 7D and the Nikon D7100 (Bodys only). The thing is, this is my first dslr camera, so i don't have any lenses yet and buying a camera that costs this much would blow my budget. But the good thing is, i found $10 lenses on ebay that seem good enough for me.

How good of picture would i still be able to take? Is it worth it?

For the D7100, good lenses to get that are cheap are: 35mm f/1.8G ($200-ish), 50mm f/1.8D ($110).

The 18-55 VR kit lens is also good and zooms. It goes for $100 also, but can be found cheaper used.

The norm is the other way around, expensive lens, cheap camera. Lenses are more important for optical quality. I'm pretty sure those $10 lenses won't do you good unless you know exactly what you are doing.

Have you considered buying a refurbished Nikon instead of new? I found during a refurbishment that my D1000 came back better then it was when I first bought it. Since then, every camera I buy has been a refurbished model and here's my logic.

Assembly lines aren't as meticulously monitored as a refurbished unit which is tested thoroughly on it's own before resale. I think the quality of a refurbished camera body is as good or better than a factory line production model.

Well Batman, you would have $10.00 image quality. Not worth it.

Images would be as good as a captures made using the world's worst cellular phone in terms of acuity / sharpness, color saturation and other desirable properties.

Save your money, get a 200.00 lens if you desire autofocusing of some kind or buy a used lens for 100.00 that only offers manual focus if you absolutely can't wait for some reason.

Be patient and get 10 times better results. You will be glad you did in the end.

Lenses are where the image quality really comes from and its more beneficial to use a really great lens on a lesser camera body than to use a low performing lens on a higher quality camera sensor.

The same as it might be better to let Alfred repair the batmobile instead of your local shop.
