Why won't the nikon D3000 let me have a shutter speed higher than 200?

Hi

I have a nikon D3000 and have had the camera for about 2 weeks now…

Sometimes the camera lets me go up to a shutter speed of 4000 but usually it won't.
does any one else have this problem? And how do you fix it?

Probably because you have the flash up. Maximum sync speed is 1/200 so the camera won't give you any more. Put the flash down, turn the dial and see what happens - up it goes.

The manual modes will let you adjust the shutter speed to your desired setting. Using an auto, programe or semi-auto mode still gives the camera some degree of control.

Try using M or S (Sv on some cameras) to set shutter speed manually.

If using A (or Av) mode then you might need to adjust aperture to allow for a different shutter speed or increase/lower the ISO manually.

Try using Manual mode.
