Nikon SLR Cameras

Which of the Nikon D series is best for an entry level enthusiast? Nikon D3100?

They all seem to be great entry level dslrs. But my question is, which is cheapest? I have my eye on the D3100.

Added (1). I'll just be shooting some basic landscape and maybe some friends here and there.

The D3100 is a good camera, they all are good cameras and will do what you want. What exactly will you be shooting?

While the D3100 has been replaced by the slightly better D3200, it is arguably the best cost/performance camera, especially given you can get a refurbished one with a lens for under $400.

Refurbished means somewhere between new and used.

Like everyone is saying the D3100 is at an all time low price because its been replaced by the D3200. However you should also look into the D5100 since its also very cheap. Its also better than both the D3100 and D3200. The sensor on the D5100 is able to take clear pictures even at high ISO settings so you get nice clear pics in low light conditions. The sensor on the D3200 is actually just as good in low light as the D5100's sensor. But with the D3200 you loose the swivel screen. The D5100 also has slightly better manual control and bracketing.

Also don't get caught up in mega pixels. Yes you do get more detail but at the same time you give up ISO performance which can hurt picture quality.

Chose the D3100 its the best hands down. Its easy to learn on the quality is flawless and the price is great.

I agree with captain, if you can scrounge up the extra $80, get the D5100 over the 3100.
