Which Nikkor Lens is best suited for me?

I'm trying to decide between the AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D or the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G. I'm interested in doing more portraits and I'm in college. I have a Nikon D80 and will upgrade in the future. Any help would be appreciated. I already have a AF-S NIKKOR 18-35mm 1:3.5-5.6G.

The G is a newer lens. It has the "silent wave focus motor".
The D is an older lens that still has the ability to manually select the aperture.
They are both excellent as far as optics go.
I'd get the D, as a matter of fact I did, save the $80, and learn about manually using aperture. BTW, you can set it on 22 and control the aperture from the camera also.

With the D, you can control aperture using the aperture ring. The G does not have an aperture ring so controls have to be done using the wheel in the body. The D can be controlled that way too.more importantly, the G has an AF motor making it possible to AF with low-end Nikon dSLRs like the D40, D60, D3x00 and the D5x00. The D has to used in manual focus mode using those camera models.
