Which lens to get for portraits on a nikon D60?

I want a nice lens for portraits of my girls. I have a Nikon D60 and am trying to decide on the Nikon 40mm f/2.8G AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR Lens or the Nikon 50mm f/1.8G AF-S NIKKOR Lens or if i'm even looking at the right ones: D Thank you.

Because of the 1.5 crop sensor on your camera, your best bet is the 50mm f/1.8.It is closer to the portrait range and it is a faster lens compared to the 40mm lens you were thinking about.

Look into the new 50mm f/1.4 AF-S lens. This is an awesome lens for portraits on a D60.

If you don't have that kind of money, get the 50mm you mentioned.
