Which camera has better image quality the Sony Nex-5 or the Nikon D3100?

I'm planning on buying a SLR or SLR hybrid camera. I like the portability of the Nex-5 and they say that it is just as good as a starting SLR. So I'm wondering is that really true?

The sony is an EVIL camera not a DSLR

besides that, the leaders in photography are Canon and Nikon

Stick by those brands and you will not be disappointed. The sony has no viewfinder and requires the photographer to use Live View- which sucks up 3x more battery. Until this technology develops, DSLR cameras are still better.

If you do plan on getting a hybrid camera, skip on the Sony. Both Olympus and Panasonic makes better hybrid cameras.

However, DSLRs still have the advantage when it comes to speed, handling, and accessories.

The Nex-5: http://www.amazon.com/...B003MPWBB6 is pretty cool; it takes photos almost as well as an entry level DSLR, yet it's so small! However, I would recommend waiting a couple of years for these new breed of cameras to mature before buying. Also since the Sony makes the nex-5, the controls are a pain in the but. And pretty expensive also. You could get a pretty good DSLR for the same price.

Stick with a Canon or a Nikon. Personally, I really like the Canon Rebel T2i: http://www.amazon.com/...B0035FZJHQ
