Where can I get the tripod hole in my camera fixed?
It is a Nikon D60 that was used before then given to me as a gift. When I got it I noticed that the tripod hole is completely useless. It looks like a tripod screw got stuck in it but then someone tried to drill it out causing it to eat some of the soft metal. So now it is a hole with metal too deep to grasp. What should I do?
Wow, too bad you did not notice this before you bought it.
As you can see, DIY fixes are not recommended and just the fact that the previous owner broke the tripod mounting screw, shows that the previous owner had NO clue how to use and protect their camera gear
All you can do is take the camera into a proper camera repair shop and see what it will cost for the repair.
Unfortunately, the cost of replacing the tripod socket may be so high that you would be better off buying a new camera.
Go to an authorized Nikon service center and ask. If the tripod mount is incorporated in the frame, you're in trouble. The only fix I can think of is gluing a battery-grip permanently to the bottom to get a new tripod mount. I'm not sure if the D60 has that option.
If the tripod mount however is a separate part then the guys at the service center should be able to replace it at a cost.
