When I read compatibility with Nikon D3000, is that the same for D3100?

In terms of lenses it will be - neither camera has a focus motor in the body, so both will require AF-S or HSM lenses to autofocus.

IR remotes will also be the same for those two bodies. In terms of other accessories, I'm not sure.

Major items like lack of focusing non AF-S lenses and lack of Speedlight Remote Command are still the same for both models.

But the batteries are different, so third party chargers and battery grips made for the D3000 won't likely work on the D3100.

Other things you will want to check individually to see if they will work.

An aside for DeepBlues comment on remotes, the D3100 doesn't have IR remote capability. Need to use a wired remote. The D3000 has IR remote capability.

Lenses and flash systems are compatible between the two models.
